Carver’s Jackson Selected as Kids’ Champion
Each month, our district recognizes an outstanding member of Team FCPS who goes above and beyond to make a difference in students’ lives and embodies the five key characteristics of a Kids’ Champion: innovation, advocacy, empathy, knowledge, and a positive attitude. For November, our award winner is Kisha Jackson, registrar at George Washington Carver STEM Academy for Boys.
The colleague who nominated her wrote: “Ms. Jackson is a gleaming example of empathy, love, inspiration, and advocacy. She is honest and she is heartfelt. She treats the scholars and staff like they were part of her family. … We love Ms. Jackson and are so blessed to have her as the first person you see when you enter our building.”
Superintendent Demetrus Liggins surprised Jackson with a balloon bouquet and a Kids’ Champion door sign. “It was really easy to find kiddos interested in coming up and saying something on her behalf,” said Principal Lamar Allen. “I know our scholars are appreciative of her. She’s an absolutely amazing person.”
Jackson was flattered by all the unexpected attention at the start of the school day. Naturally, she turned the focus back to the students, saying, “I’m genuinely concerned not just about their education but them personally.”
The Fayette County Board of Education will also salute Jackson at their Nov. 25 action meeting.
