School History

Fayette County Public Schools opened the George Washington Carver STEM Academy in August 2021. This magnet program, which is housed in the renovated and historic Johnson Elementary building on Sixth Street, initially welcomed boys in grades K-2. It will grow over time, adding a level every year through fifth grade. The STEM-focused curriculum (science, technology, engineering, and math) is taught through culturally responsive teaching and learning strategies.
